More of D's Schoolwork

The boys started Language Arts this week, in addition to their math. I am using Rigg's Writing Road to Reading for their Phonics/Spelling instruction and McGuffey's Readers for their Reading instruction. B will be in McGuffey's Second Eclectic Reader 1836 and S will be using McGuffey's Pictorial Primer (New First Eclectic Reader for Little Children 1857).

D's Schoolwork
D surprised me this morning by being able to draw a line from the picture to the number in his math. I didn't know that he could do that, but I have to say that he doesn't understand the concept of drawing a circle yet. He was particularly cute when he took his time to put each bug sticker onto a leaf and then we spent almost ten minutes on his folding project, because he would open it and I would say "sad/crying" and then he would fold it and I would say "happy/laughing". Even though he drew the lines from the pictures to the numbers in his math, when it came time to draw water coming from the hose in his coloring, he just drew water on each of the children and around the hose.

Yesterday only S & B did schoolwork, and in the afternoon we went to our sister's house so that the boys could play with their cousin in the pool.

First Post

We started the new school year today, by working on math. We will just do one subject this week and then each week following a new subject will be added.

I will be teaching Preschool, 1st Grade, & 5th Grade. My Preschooler, D, is my 3 year old nephew; my 1st grader, S, is my 2nd youngest brother; and my 5th grader, B, is my youngest brother.

I am starting this blog to help keep me accountable to teaching these boys this year and to help me not to slack off.
